National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea, was established in Gyeongbokgung Palace in 1969 as the only national art museum in the country accommodating both modern and contemporary art of Korea and international art of different time periods. The museum moved to Seokjojeon in Deoksugung Palace in 1973, then to its present site in Gwacheon in 1986, with an international-sized facility and an outdoor sculpture park. In 1998, National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Deoksugung, was established as an annex of the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea. The museum revised its organization into a ‘Planning and Management Office’ in 2006, becoming much more specialized and public-oriented.

By subway

The Museum is located inside Deoksugung Palace, Seoul

- City Hall Station, Subway Line No. 1, Exit No. 2 or Subway Line No. 2, Exit No. 12 

- National Museum of Art, Deoksugung is located inside the Deoksugung Palace grounds. Enter the main entrance (Daehanmun) of Deoksugung Palace to visit the museum.

- There is no parking lot in Deoksugung Palace.

- Please use nearby commercial parking lots, in Plaza Hotel, Koreana Hotel, Hansung Parking Lot, The Kyunghyang Shinmun, and Franciscan Friary .
